LOOK OUT! Water Ahead!

It's been a wet & gloomy week with no sign of the rain stopping. So far, we have been fortunate that the rain hasn't coincided with high tides, repeating the massive flooding of 2 years ago. However, minor flooding can still happen in low-lying areas if there is continuous heavy rain over a few days, or if drains overflow. Motorists should arm themselves with knowledge of what to do in a potential flood situation, rather than finding out the hard way!

  1. Delay your journey during a storm if you can do so.
  2. Plan your route to avoid flood-prone areas if possible.
  3. Listen to traffic announcements on the radio to find out the latest road situations.
  4. Drive slowly through water to create a small bow wave in front of the car. Driving fast may be dangerous to other road users.
  5. Drive at a speed that matches the visibility, traffic & road conditions. Remember that you require a longer braking distance on a wet & slippery surface.
  6. Do not drive straight into the water if you do not know how deep it is.
  7. Shift gears smoothly in manual cars & stay in the highest gear possible. Never use cruise control or put the car in neutral gear. Keep your car in control.
  8. Dry your brakes by gently applying pressure to the accelerator & brake pedals at the same time when driving through water.
  9. Ease off the brakes & reapply gently if you feel the wheels locking up when braking. But if your car has an anti-lock brake system (ABS), you can step on the brakes as hard as you want. If you feel a plusating sensation from the brake pedal, do not panic - it is the system at work, preventing wheel lockup so you cab steer past obstacle.
  10. Park your car on higher ground if you can. Choose the higher levels of a multi-storey carpark instead of the basement.
So DRIVE SAFELY ALWAYS!

Tips For Motorists

Basic Safety Measures - Pre-driving checks conduct regular checks in order to ensure a well-maintained vehicle. This will result in minimal breakdowns, reduction in accidents, efficient fuel consumption & lower repari costs.

  • External checks
  • Tyres - Check tyre threads & sidewalls for damage & that the pressure is correct
  • External - Check for damages or signs of wear, damage & tear to the car body
  • Wheel - Ensure that the wheels nuts are tight & check rims for cracks & damage
  • Tool/Equipment - Check that tools & equipment are complete

Mitsubishi's Cross-Country Team Completes Stunning Weekend with Victory in UAE Desert Challenge

16 Nov 2005 - Mitsubishi Motors Repsol Team driver Stéphane Peterhansel and co-driver Jean-Paul Cottret clinched their third UAE Desert Challenge victory in four years, when they crushed the opposition in the final round of this year's FIA Cross-Country Rally World Cup, which finished in Dubai on Monday, November 14th.

Peterhansel had been using the event as a final pre-Dakar Rally skakedown and was fastest on the Prologue and all seven selective sections to take victory by the staggering margin of 3h 02m 29s. His Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero Evolution performed reliably throughout, giving the defending Dakar champion and his Mitsubishi team a major confidence boost before the Dakar Rally.

"It was one of the most succesful motorsport weekends for Mitsubishi Motor Sports for many years," added MMSP's President Isao Torii. "The second place on the WRC rally in Australia this weekend, the win here in Dubai and the good performances of our teams is the proof that motorsport is one of our key pillars in the corporate identity. We are confident for the future."

"We started the year with a victory in Dakar and now we have finished the season with another win," said MMSP's Team Director Dominique Serieys. "Nothing is ever easy, but this result proves we did a great job. Now we have to wait until January 15th to see if we can win the Dakar again. I think the team is ready. We have won the last four rallies here in Dubai and won 14 of the last 16 events with the Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution.

Team mate Joan 'Nani' Roma completed the opening leg from Abu Dhabi to Moreeb in third position, after losing time in soft sand and with a sudden illness which forced him to stop in the stage on two occasions. His physical condition deteriorated over the next 48 hours and the Spaniard and Andorra-based co-driver Henri Magne were forced to miss the subsequent two legs while Roma recovered from a serious bout of food poisoning.

After incurring substantial time penalties, the pair resumed their pre-Dakar training on the fourth leg and set the second fastest time to move from 22nd to 18th in the overall standings. Roma was then second fastest again on the last two stages to reach the finish of his final pre-Dakar test session in positive spirits.

The event had been extended to six days this year for the first time and crews tackled five legs in the remote UAE deserts after one timed Prologue stage, near Dubai. The Mitsubishi Motors Repsol Team competed against an international field of 61 bikes, nine quads, 28 other cars and three trucks in a total route of 2,260 kms, of which 1,583 kms were competitive.

Mitsubishi Motors and Smart Sign Agreement on Engine Supply

Tokyo, October 28, 2005 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and smart gmbh, a 100 percent owned subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler AG, have signed an agreement on engine supply. MMC will supply an engine of the same type as the turbo-charged engine to be used in i, MMC's new concept minicar due for launch in January 2006.

The engine will be further developed for use in smart's fortwo successor model. After the launch of the current smart fortwo in October 1998, its successor will be available from 2007 onwards.

MMC and DaimlerChrysler have been cooperating on various win-win projects in recent years and further ones are constantly in discussion. They generate substantial synergy effects for all partners and this engine supply agreement is another part of this cooperative relationship.

The engines to be supplied are the natural aspirated and turbo-charged engines based on the engine developed for i and will be produced at MMC's powertrain production facility in Mizushima, Okayama Prefecture, Japan.

Together with the engine production for i MMC will be able to realize economies of scale through this agreement, thus lowering costs on a per-unit basis.

Mitsubishi Evolution Terminology

Mitsubishi Evolution Terminology

ACD
(Active Center Differential)

The ACD incorporates an electronically controlled hydraulic multi-plate clutch. An ECU optimises clutch cover clamp load for different driving conditions, regulating the differential limiting action between free and locked states.

Effect: The result is improved steering response together with better traction. ACD provides three modes -- Tarmac / Gravel / Snow -- to enable quicker control response for changes in road surface. A single ECU provides integrated management of both ACD and Super AYC components.

Super AYC (Active Yaw Control)

Mitsubishi's Active Yaw Control system uses a torque-transfer mechanism in the rear differential. Under ECU control, the system operates to raise cornering performance by transferring torque between the rear wheels as dictated by driving conditions and so control the yaw moment acting on the car body. In an evolutionary step, switching from the use of a bevel to a planetary gear differential gave Super AYC the ability to transfer almost twice the torque between the rear wheels.

Effect: As well as reducing understeer further, it delivers LSD-level traction. The use of a single ECU to integrally manage Super AYC with the ACD results in a synergism that makes both components operate more effectively than if they were under independent control.

Sport ABS braking

The system ECU uses information from a steering angle sensor that detects steering inputs as well as from lateral G and vehicle speed sensors to apportion pressure to each of the four wheels independently.

Effect: The result is improved steering response under braking. Mitsubishi's Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) system, integral with Sports ABS, optimises allocation of braking force between the front and rear wheels. Increasing the pressure applied to the rear wheels when braking close to the limit, EBD reduces the load on the front wheels to realise better anti-fade performance. The system also compensates for changes in surface and vehicle load conditions to ensure predictable and consistent stopping performance at all times.

HKS Mitsubishi Evolution VIII Iridium Spark Plugs

The Iridium alloy is used because of its durability and reliability
. On an average plug, a narrow core typically shortens life span of plug but with the intense durability of iridium there is no sacrifice in any longevity. With a high melting point of 2454 degrees C, opposed to the 1769 degrees C of white gold, the electrode can tolerate the high levels of compression and minor knocking without any deterioration. A nickel coating on the housing also prevents the spark plug from premature deterioration.

Tein 03 Mitsubishi Evolution VIII / IX Super Racing Coil-Overs

Tein is known for their quality and highly-tunable coil-overs.
The Tein Super Racing Coil-Overs will improve your Evolutions handling as well as responsiveness. They have adjustable ride heights so you can adjust it to the driving conditions.

The New Super Racing Coilover Feature:
A. Upper Mount - Pillow upper mount is set in each model for controlling the compliance, for realization of direct driving feel and handling incomparable with the original one.

B. Mono-Tube Structure - Mono-tube shell case is adopted to enable very fine control of the machine and aggressive yet detailed communication with the road surface. It generates and maintains very stable damping force, which even stands the intensive and repeated runs on the circuit, reacting to the tiniest data from the road surface.

C. Full-Length Adjustment Function - Full-length adjustment system with movable lower bracket has been adopted, which enables the separate adjustment of the ride-height and pre-load.

D. Separate Compression and Rebound Damping Force Adjustability - For finer settings, total of 256 different kinds of damping force settings (16 levels for compression x 16 levels for rebound) are available, by adding the systems both at base valve and piston rod. Use of specially shaped needle valve enables linear damping force adjustment at each and every 16 levels.

E. Rust-Proofing - All threading parts are coated with specially formulated Fluorine, to prevent adherence and rust. Electroless nickel plating combined with clear painting is applied to lower brackets. *Strut type only.

F. Inverted Shell Case for Strut Type - Inverted steel shell case is used for strut types, for which the side rigidity is inevitable. Linear damping force, which is one of the advantages of mono-tube system, is just as same as the regular shell case.

G. Aluminum Shell Case - Light weight aluminum shell case is used for wishbone and/or multi-link type suspension, for superior heat liberation. Furthermore, the surface is treated with specially formulated hard black Alumite for improved durability.

H. Upper Seat - Upper spring seat is used for wishbone and/or multi-link type to move springs and dampers coaxially. This enables springs to stroke at proper rates without twisting, and dampers to stroke smoother.

I. External Reservoir swivel Tank - External tank mounted at the bottom of shell case turns in the direction of thrust, for finer full-length adjustment. * Wishbone/Multi-link Type Only.

J. Conical Spring Washer - With existing full-length adjustable dampers, various vibration stresses might cause bracket lock to loosen in rare occasions. SUPER RACING has 'Conical Spring Washer' inserted between a bracket lock and a lower bracket, to effectively prevent loosening of a bracket lock even when circuit-driving intensively.

WILL FIT ALL 03+ EVO
